The handsome, 5-story, cast-iron building at 21 Mercer Street between Grand and Howard Streets in SoHo is being converted to four condominium apartments.

The building was erected in 1867 and is being converted by Peter Armstrong, who also converted 73 Wooster Street.

H. Thomas O'Hara is the architect for the conversion.

The full-floor apartments have gas-burning fireplaces, cherry flooring, cast-iron columns and his and her dressing rooms with dual master bathrooms in the master suite.

Polifon Piu glass sliding doors are in the home office and ceilings range from 10 feet 8 inches to 14 feet 2 inches.

The building has key-lock elevator access and the kitchens have honed Galizia Capri stone backsplash, Sub-Zero refrigerators, Miele dishwashers, 36 inch Wolf five-burner gas cook-top range and separate built-in ovens, Sub-Zero undercounter wine storage system, recessed halogen lighting, Poliform cabinetry in natural cherry finish with graphite matte glass upper cabinets, and stainless steel counters.

Each apartment has three bathrooms with Pietra Cardosa honed flooring and countertops and the master baths have electric towel warmers.

Three of the apartments have 3,021 square feet and are initially priced at $3,875,000 and the fourth has 3,096 square feet and is priced at $4,7850,000, according to Linda Fenn of Prudential Douglas Elliman.
