A basement storage room at the Dakota at 1 West 72nd Street has sold for $801,000.
According to an article by Josh Barbanel in yesterday's edition of The New York Times, John M. Angelo, a hedge manager who is chief executive of Angelo, Gordon & Company and owner of an apartment in the building on the second floor, was the purchaser.
The room was bid on by "at least eight co-op owners, including a representative of Yoko Ono, who maintains a home in the building, according to a person briefed on the sale," the article stated.
The storage room was purchased from Juliana Curran Terian, the president and chief executive of the Rallye Group, an automobile dealership based in Rosyln, on Long Island that had been led by the late Peter Terian, a collector of 19th Century American paintings.
In January, the article, continued, Ms. Terian sold her 11-room apartment on the second floor of the fabled building for $20.5 million to Philip L. Milstein, but decided not to offer the storage room and a maid's room. "Closing documents for the maid's room have not yet been filed," the article concluded.
