From September 23-29, 2025, just over 300 condos, co-ops, condops, and townhouses in core New York City areas experienced price reductions. These included 78 Morton Street, which was known as "the Red Rover" when it was constructed as a firehouse in 1864. The house served as a volunteer operation before being managed by the FDNY as Engine No. 24, and closed its doors in 1975 amidst the city's financial crisis (h/t Village Preservation).

Fifty years later, 78 Morton Street has been transformed into a one-of-a-kind residence with a four-car garage, a private elevator, top-of-the-line appliances and fixtures throughout, and a basement-level jazz club with stage and wine cellar. Some of the building's ornamentation was removed amidst the initial residential conversion in 2005, but original details were beautifully preserved inside and out.

When the house sold in September 2020, ArtNet identified the buyer as art director/collector Beth Redmond and announced that she planned to use it as an exhibition space. It was listed for $21 million in April 2025, but the price reduction brings it to under $19 million. If it sells for this price, Ms. Redmond will take a loss, having bought it for $19.92 million (per public records).
