Located within a block of the waterfront and across the street from the Domino Sugar redevelopment lies 333 Kent Avenue, a former bakery that was most recently used a live/work space for artist Cosimo Cavallaro. He eventually sold the property for $5M (originally listed at $12.8M) in early 2012 and it was planned for redevelopment shortly after. After years of uncertainty, renderings for a contemporary two-story addition on the brick building surfaced on YIMBY via NYC-based design firm Diad Architecture. Recent construction photos taken of the Williamsburg site show the addition has taken shape.
The most recent permits call for 8,879 square feet of commercial space in addition to the existing 7,805 square feet. And it looks like that space will continue to be used for art - a two-floor art gallery, music/film screening venue, cafe, storage, and offices will all be present. According to Diad Architecture's site, the Arts Center/Residences project is "envisioned as a nexus for community interaction" that "fosters emerging voices from the fields of music and the plastic arts."
Of course, it wouldn't be a modern-day conversion if some condos weren't added. Permits call for just two residential units encompassing a total of 5,197 square feet. Both will be spacious duplex apartments.
There will also be some residential amenities like parking, bike spaces, a lobby, and an open terrace with a pool on the third floor. The owner is listed as John Dougherty of Kent Avenue Realty Trust. Construction will likely be wrapped up early next year.
