As Greenpoint Landing rapidly takes shape, the rest of its resurgent Brooklyn neighborhood isn't sitting by quietly: Permits have been filed for a new five-story, 21-unit building to rise at 142 Huron Street, right between the Greenpoint Avenue subway stop and the Greenpoint ferry stop. A two-story building dating back to 1930 is currently on the site, and demolition permits have not been filed yet.

Renderings released by Bluarch, designer and applicant of record, show an imaginative fenestration pattern set in a textured façade. The large windows have metal frames and bronze details, and also promise excellent light for the apartments within. Additional perks will include 11 on-site parking places, a bike room, a lounge, and a roof deck.

Permits state that there will be four apartments per floor. An offering plan has not been filed, and an average apartment size of 680 square feet is indicative of rentals. According to CityRealty listings, the median Greenpoint rent is $2,750/month.

The building is taking shape in a particularly active area for new construction. Just around the block, a highly modern condo is taking shape at 141 Green Street. In the opposite direction, a landmarked building has been transformed into a contemporary rental known as The Astral.
