In May 2016, Bonjour Capital bought six lots on Second Avenue between East 102nd and 103rd Streets for around $25 million. Plans for the site now known as 1988 Second Avenue have not yet been filed with the city, but Daniel Goldner Architects, designer of nearby rental Lexington Gardens II and the West Village's 163 Charles Street, has released renderings of a new building. In them, a 120,000-square-foot, 12-story, metal and glass building towers over its red brick neighbors. There is retail space on the ground floor and rental apartments on top.
Bonjour Capital CEO Charles Dayan cites the Second Avenue subway as inspiration to build in that stretch of East Harlem. Projects ranging from an affordable housing development at 1766-1788 Second Avenue to Vitre, a luxe condominium at 302 East 96th Street, were similarly inspired.
