The section of West Chelsea around the High Line is home to some of Manhattan's most eye-catching architecture, and the neighborhood was home to the highest-priced apartment sales from the week ending September 15, 2023. The top sale took place at The Cortland, where Residence #18CW sold for $10,650,000, or slightly above the asking price of an even $10,000,000 when it entered contract in May 2023. The three-bedroom, three and a half-bath condo has a massive corner Great Room, an open kitchen with pantry and wine fridge, a primary suite with walk-in closet, and Juliet balconies off the Great Room and a secondary bedroom.

A few blocks north, the Zaha Hadid-designed 520 West 28th Street had the second-highest sale with Residence #21, which closed for $7,350,000. The buyer and seller were identified only through LLCs, but public records show that the seller has taken a loss on the three-bedroom apartment with a private balcony, having bought it for $9,366,309 in July 2017.

Also of note, public records show that the Jacobean Revival-style townhouse at 64 West 87th Street sold for $10,250,000, slightly below the asking price of $10,350,000 when it entered contract in June 2023 and only slightly less than the top apartment sale. Shortly after it was built at the turn of the 20th century, it was sold to Lucius Nathan Littauer, a businessman/philanthropist and longtime friend of Theodore Roosevelt. Over 100 years and an extensive renovation and restoration later, the sellers are listed as hedge fund executive Alexander Fiterman and physician/author Alla Shapiro; the buyer conducted the transaction through an LLC.
