At the beginning of the year, Rockefeller Group and Mitsubishi Estate New York filed plans for a 632-foot, 46-story skyscraper at 30 East 29th Street. Since then, the permits have been approved, the buildings previously on-site have been demolished, and the site has been cleared for construction.
In this article:
In May 2017, Rockefeller Group bought the assemblage of three buildings and the surrounding air rights from Extell Group for $98.96 million. According to renderings released by architect of record CetraRuddy, a tall, slim tower will rise on the site. Chevrons will rise from bottom to top, and the building will have an Art Deco-inspired design.
Plans call for 123 luxury condominiums with several duplexes among them. There will be no more than four units per floor, and many apartments will have private terraces. Building amenities will include a pool, fitness center, squash court, bike room, and 31st floor entertainment space with two terraces.
While the completion date has not yet been announced, we already know that the new tower will be part of a new NoMad skyline. Neighbors 400 Park Avenue South, Sky House, and Twenty9th Park Madison were early entrants and living proof of the demand for luxury NoMad housing. Meanwhile, the Morris Adjmi-designed 30E31 is nearly at full height; the “building on stilts” at 132 Madison Avenue is on the rise; and the Rafael Vinoly-designed 277 Fifth Avenue topped out earlier this spring.
