September 22, 2025 marked the autumnal equinox and official start of fall in the Northern Hemisphere. This came less than a week after New York City's last 7:00 p.m. sunset of 2025 and marks the beginning of shorter days (but still later sunsets than when Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday, November 2).

But while it is starting to look a bit more like autumn in New York, it does not feel much like it yet. The National Weather Service says that the New York region has up to a 50% chance of a warmer-than-average fall (h/t Gothamist). Long-term weather predictions are difficult to pin down; but in the immediate term, New York City's forecast calls for high temperatures in the high 70s/low 80s into next week, the last of September 2025.

New York City has no shortage of parks and green space to make the most of good weather, and courtyards and roof terraces are popular amenities in residential buildings.
