With the Thanksgiving holiday falling between November 20-26, 2023, the abbreviated business week resulted in fewer Manhattan real estate contracts being signed by default. However, that was still time for a number of exciting deals to take place.
Leading the charge was a five-bedroom duplex residence at the top of the J.E.R. Carpenter-designed 920 Fifth Avenue, asking $23,500,000. While this was the top contract by a $10 million margin, Olshan Realty's luxury report notes that the price represents a $3.4 million reduction from when it was listed in October 2021 and that the apartment is in need of renovation.

The top townhouse contract and second-highest overall was for 112 Waverly Place, a Federal-style townhouse in the heart of Greenwich Village asking $13,500,000. The townhouse's listing touts acclaimed playwright Lorraine Hansberry's former residency; however, when it was listed for $15.5 million in May 2023, the New York Post chose to highlight its status as the former home of then-power couple Johnny Depp and Kate Moss in the mid-1990s. The most recent buyer of the property, which includes a carriage house, has not been identified.

Further uptown, celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz's apartment at The Brentmore on Central Park West entered contract with an asking price of $8,600,000 just over a month after she listed it. While that was good enough for the fifth-highest contract of the past week, Ms. Leibovitz will nevertheless take a loss on it, having paid $11.25 million for it in 2014.
