Front-Row Seats: Apartments along the 2026 NYC Marathon route

Sunday, November 1 marks the 50th anniversary of the TCS New York City Marathon, which will break its own record with over 60,000 runners from 140 countries expected to participate this year. This year's race will feature the first change to the marathon route in 15 years, one that will mean fewer turns for runners in the Bronx and greater convenience for locals in the Bronx, but the course will remain the same in the other four boroughs. Those traveling by car or bus are advised to check for street closures and allow for extra travel time on Sunday.

Some have speculated that singer Harry Styles, who is performing his final show at Madison Square Garden on October 31 and would have weeks of recovery time before his next major event in Australia, is running this year's marathon. His presence cannot be confirmed, but that of celebrities like Tiki Barber, Jennifer Connelly, Dylan Efron, Vinny Guadagnino, Samantha Judge, Patina Miller, Antoni Porowski, Nēv Schulman, and Mychal Threets can.

The marathon will air on ABC with pre-race coverage beginning at 7 a.m., and coverage will also air on ESPN2. But in a spirit of collective effervescence not unlike the New York Knicks' road to the championship earlier this year, New York City seems united in celebrating the marathon. The 2026 TCS New York City Marathon Expo Presented by New Balance is underway at the Javits Center; Saturday events will include various "shake-out runs" and a pre-marathon pasta dinner at Eataly's Flatiron flagship; and various hotels, sports teams, observation decks, restaurants, and retailers are offering special perks to marathon runners in the hours and days following the event.

But one does not necessarily need to run the marathon to get caught up in the joyful spirit of the day. Countless watch parties will take place on Sunday, and anyone can drop in on various cheering sections on the marathon route.
