When it was still under construction, 378 West End Avenue garnered considerable attention for its sizable apartments, curated amenities, and pandemic-proof infrastructure that includes direct elevator entry, copper alloy door handles in all common spaces, and advanced air filtration systems, the latter of which have seen a new appreciation in recent times. A month and a half after New York's air quality emergency, Penthouse A had the top sale with a closing price of $24,750,000. The sale of the five-bedroom, 6,169-square-foot home with a total of 1,334 square feet of outdoor space comes in only 1% below the asking price of $25 million and was recorded less than a year after #15A, another trophy penthouse, closed for $25.95 million.

Also last week, a third-floor unit at 378 West End Avenue closed for $7,685,000 in the fifth-highest sale. The building is now 86% sold (h/t Marketproof), and a small handful of remaining availabilities starts at $5,975,000.

The top downtown sale and second-highest overall was NASCAR athlete Jeff Gordon's apartment at The Whitman, which ultimately closed for $13,500,000 less than three months after it entered contract with a $12.995 million asking price, and about 10 years after he bought it for $10 million. One of only four units in the beautifully converted building, the full-floor apartment features views of Madison Square Park, custom curated kitchen, a luxurious primary suite, custom art in the children's bedrooms, and a large planting terrace. The buyer conducted the transaction through an LLC.

Mr. Gordon was not the only athlete with a high-priced New York City transaction this week: Public records list Rob Kresberg, former tennis pro and Sag Harbor Tennis owner, as one of the buyers of a three-bedroom condo at Cielo that sold for $8,250,000 in the fourth-highest sale of the past week. Appropriately enough, the Yorkville condominium is located a short distance from the tennis and pickleball courts of Carl Schurz Park.
The top co-op sale and third-highest overall was for #30ABC at 200 Central Park South, a five-bedroom, 5,200-square-foot home that closed for $10,377,400. Public records list the buyer as investor Daniel E. Edwards and the seller as a trust linked to Morry Rubin, entrepreneur and former CEO of FlexShopper.
