Built by William Waldorf Astor in 1908, the Apthorp is situated between 78th and West 79th Streets. It does not have private balconies, but it is distinguished by a beautifully landscaped center courtyard. The Apthorp has four lobbies – all of which are accessible from its courtyard – leading to opulent residences that have been carefully restored and renovated.

Amenities at the Apthorp include a full-service garage, a private roof deck, a landscaped garden, entertainment suite, children's playroom, a doorman in each of the 4 lobbies, and a resident manager. It is located near Riverside Park, which runs along the Hudson River and has jogging and biking paths. It is also convenient to many shops and restaurants. A subway station is less than a block away and residents can easily hail a cab on Broadway or West End Avenue, allowing for quick access to either uptown or downtown.
