John Clay made his fortune as a global investment banker, but his true passion was Sanskrit literature: He and his wife Jennifer were among the co-founders of the Clay Sanskrit Library at Oxford University in 1999; at his death in 2013, he established the John P Clay Graduate Scholarship in Manuscript and Text Cultures: Sanskrit at Queen's College Oxford. Their Manhattan townhouse was sold to Simrat and Saket Mehta, who left New York with their family during the pandemic but evidently loved it too much to stay away.

Between his leading role in The Northman earlier this year, guest appearances on Atlanta and Documentary Now!, and the recently completed film Infinity Pool, we have certainly seen a lot of Alexander Skarsgård this year. One place we won't see much of him now is the East Village: The Emmy Award-winning actor just sold his apartment at a small loss.

From the Listing:
This stunning top floor home is a masterful blend of 19th century townhouse architecture and a thoughtful, modern renovation. With exposed brick and wood-beamed ceilings ranging in height from 10-12 feet, the living space takes on loft-like proportions. Pre-war details are plentiful and include a wood-burning marble fireplace and original pocket shutters. The natural light in this home is unmatched, with five skylights in addition to three southern-facing windows and a large casement window overlooking the tranquil common garden to the north.

300-West-109th-Street-01 The Manhasset (Coldwell Banker Warburg)
Less than a year after they listed it for $1,775,000, actress Debra Winger and her husband, actor/writer Arliss Howard, have offloaded their Upper West Side apartment. When the listing was announced, the New York Post noted that the couple was poised to take a loss on it, having paid $1,850,000 for it in 2015.

From the Listing:
High ceilings, hardwood oak strip floors, oak millwork and trim throughout are just some of the hallmarks of this serene renovated two-bedroom co-op apartment at the Manhassett in excellent condition. All the rooms are generous and well proportioned. The living room with its oversized windows is large enough to hold a grand piano and looks out over the trees on 109th Street; the dining room doubles as a library but can easily be converted to a third bedroom.

It has a charming bay window and window seat. The primary bedroom has excellent closet space and fits a king-size bed easily. Its bathroom ensuite is voluminous, boasting a separate shower and a glorious tub for at least two - you might want to buy the apartment for the bathroom alone.
