Price Cuts: Multimillion-dollar reductions at Rupert Murdoch and Ivana Trump's NYC homes; Final sponsor units at 14 Second Avenue reduced

As June 2024 wound down, CityRealty data shows that both inventory and prices fell week over week, consistent with what usually happens over summer vacation season. During this time, from June 25 - July 1, 2024, about 250 condo, co-op, condop, and townhouse listings throughout New York experienced price reductions.

These included two of the final sponsor units at 14 Second Avenue, a boutique condominium on the corner of Second Avenue and East Houston Street. This collection of 10 full-floor two- and three-bedroom units launched sales in early 2023 and is 70% sold nearly a year and a half later. Remaining availabilities have been marked down.

They also included Rupert Murdoch's triplex penthouse at One Madison. As the media mogul was having the white-box penthouse renovated and customized to his exact specifications, he lived in a full-floor three-bedroom unit just below the penthouse. This unit sold fairly quickly in October 2022, but the penthouse remains on the market over two years after it was initially listed; it has been on and off the sales and rental markets ever since. Most recently, Mr. Murdoch relisted it for $38.5 million in April 2024, and the latest price reduction brings it down to $28,500,000.
Further uptown, 10 East 64th Street, the Upper East Side mansion of Ivana Trump also remains on the market nearly two years after her death and over a year and a half after her estate listed it. Its current price of $19,500,000 represents a $7 million price reduction, though the money saved could very well go straight to updating and redecorating the house – between the gold-embossed marble fireplace, the leopard-print office, the pink marble bathroom, and a "Versailles-inspired" dining room, The Wall Street Journal remarked that it was like stepping back in time to the 1980s when it announced the listing.
