The number of listed apartments for sales continue to decline throughout the core areas of New York City. There are now 10,143 condos, co-ops, condops, and townhouses for sale throughout Manhattan, northern Brooklyn, and parts of Queens and the Bronx. The Manhattan condo median price dropped 1.6 percent from last week to $2,008,059, or $1,672 per square foot. Manhattan's median co-op price also experienced a small dip to $888,400.

From January 6-12, 361 sales listings throughout core New York City areas experienced price reductions. Among them is the Upper East Side mansion owned by the estate of disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Known as the Herbert N. Straus House, the mansion was reduced by $23 million to $65 million over the past week.

The Wall Street Journal broke the news of the discount and also mentioned that Mr. Epstein's Palm Beach property sold to a developer who plans to demolish the house and build a new home on the site. Despite its prior occupant, it would be a tragedy to see one of the city's architectural landmarks meet that same fate. The listing details the house's rich history, which dates back to the 1930s, and suggests that it could be used as an embassy, foundation, or museum.
