A ground-up commercial office building at 540 West 26th Street recently rose above street level and is now framing its second story. As 6sqft reported, construction for the 145,000-square-foot, nine-story building kicked off in August 2015, and the building will reach an ultimate height of 159 feet. Developers Savanna Fund, the Manhattes Group, and the Silvermitz family tapped Morris Adjmi Architects for the design, and the outcome will be a two-tiered glass buildings featuring a grid of floor-to-ceiling windows.
Construction progress from earlier this week
The building is in the heart of West Chelsea’s gallery district, and is just a half block from the High Line. The Lehmann Maupin Gallery previously occupied a portion of the site, and the new building will also have gallery spaces at base level, with its commercial offices located above. Interiors will feature high ceilings along with details of blackened steel, finished concrete, and salvaged wood in tribute to the area’s industrial character. The upper two floors will be setback to feature a spacious landscaped terrace with views of the Hudson River.
A setback will allow for a rooftop terrace overlooking the Hudson.
