Harlem’s highly anticipated Whole Foods Market is almost complete after two years of construction. This will be the first Whole Foods in the neighborhood and, after the closing of the 125th Street Pathmark last year, the only supermarket in the neighborhood at all. The project was announced in 2012 and is being developed by Wharton Properties. The former parking lot site is being transformed into a 200,000 square-foot, 6-story commercial building that will house more than just the food mart. Burlington Coat Factory, Olive Garden, TD Bank, and American Eagle Outfitters are among some of the other retailers within the development. The store is now expected to open early next year; it is unknown whether the other stores will open before then.
