Overview of 152 Elizabeth Street

152 Elizabeth Street is Tadao Ando's first residential project in New York City, marking a significant addition to the NoLita neighborhood. The Pritzker Prize winning architect, known for his minimalist concrete work including the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth and the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts in St. Louis, designed this seven story building with just seven condominium apartments. Interiors were crafted by Michael Gabellini of Gabellini Sheppard Associates. Developers Saif Sumaida and Amit Khurana acquired the former garage site for $21 million in 2014, with the building completing in 2018.

The building's design emphasizes Ando's signature aesthetic of exposed concrete, natural light, and water elements. A waterfall anchors the lobby behind floor to ceiling glass, while the rooftop features reflecting pools and additional waterfalls. The façade combines corner windows, thin gray painted steel girders as floor dividers, and concrete panels detailed with rows of indented circles. A 99 foot wide, 55 foot high living green wall covers one façade, and a substantial midblock roof overhang references Ando's other institutional works.

Residences range from 1,946 to over 5,600 square feet and share consistent high end finishes throughout. Common features include 14 to 20 inch wide Dinesen Heart Oak flooring, exposed polished concrete columns, kitchens by Milan based firm Minimal with honed Fango marble counters and sliding island countertops, Italian Eucalyptus cabinetry, and Gaggenau appliance packages. Bathrooms are clad in Bianco Sivec marble with glacier white Corian vanities and CEA Design fixtures. Entry galleries feature Pietra Cardosa stone, and all units include state of the art humidification systems and lighting design by Cooley Monato. The triplex penthouse spans three floors with 5,603 interior square feet, 3,240 exterior square feet, a 52 foot great room, media room, four bedroom suites, and a landscaped roof terrace with an outdoor kitchen, Ando designed granite fireplace, custom carved granite soaking tub, and views of the Empire State Building, One World Trade Center, and Williamsburg Bridge. The penthouse also includes two automated valet parking spots.

Building amenities include a 24 hour doorman, private storage units, and automated parking available for purchase. The location on the southeast corner of Elizabeth and Kenmare Streets places residents in the heart of NoLita, with SoHo immediately adjacent.
