City Kids: Creative Summer Programs for Teens

MARCH 23, 2010

With summer just around the corner, it’s a good time to find out how to help that talented teen on his or her way to fame and fortune—or just a summer of creative fun.

Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls is a non-profit program that helps girls gain self-respect, leadership skills, creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration as they express their musical selves and hone their skills on vox, axe, skins or attitude. These pint-sized rock chicks and their bands have a blast, and their showcases draw real crowds. (There’s a weekend Rock Camp program for grown-up rock chicks, too.)

Teen programs at MoMA include museum studies, teen artwork showcases, collaboration with well-known artists, free teen nights and more. Registration for summer programs ends in mid-April.

For more ideas: Teen Ink is run by and for teens and provides a comprehensive round-up of information on some of the best summer programs throughout the country.

Geek Squad Summer Academy is a fun-filled week of learning that will help demystify technology for girls in grades 6-12 as they explore the basics of networking, multimedia, internet use and computer hardware through hands-on, interactive learning. Register here.
