Ed's Chowder, Luke's Lobster: Two New Choices for Your Seafood Cravings

OCTOBER 9, 2009

Early fall is the best season for shellfish, and two new Manhattan restaurants—one downtown, one on the Upper West Side—offer more lobster to roll with.

Who better to serve lobster than a Maine lobsterman? Luke's Lobster owner Luke Holden, though only 25, has family ties in the lobster business—his father owns Portland Shellfish—which he uses as his crustacean connection for fresh shellfish. As a result, the East Village has a new spot for well-priced lobster and crab rolls when the mood hits.

Ed's Chowder House recreates the New England clam shack menu experience in the Empire Hotel near Lincoln Center. Though the restrained décor says steakhouse, the menu at the just-opened eatery features a raw bar, local fish, and, of course, chowder (“Ed’s loaded,” with a trio sampler and other standards).
