Water, Water Everywhere:
Play on the Water without Leaving the City
As the weather warms, New Yorkers traditionally head for the sun at the beach and the shade in the country. Don’t forget that Manhattan is an island—that’s water on all sides! There are lots of great ways to get wet, cool off and have fun without having to spend half of Friday sitting in traffic.

Grab a paddle and go kayaking or boating. The NYC Water Trail covers 160 square miles throughout the five boroughs—a new way to enjoy the city skyline from sea-level—or just rent a boat and spend an afternoon paddling. The Harlem River also offers great ways to get into the water. Dowtown Boathouse is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to providing access to the Hudson River, and offers a full calendar of classes and events. Re-live your college-jock days or get a great upper-body workout with the gang at East River Crew.

Learn to sail or show off what you already know on Meadow Lake, or get the kids sailing in New York Harbor.

Leave the boat behind, go overboard and swim—it's only a mile—in the Park to Park Swim.

If you'd rather just dip your toes and relax, find a beach near home, or fight the kiddies and hipsters for a turn on the slip-n-slide at Brooklyn's historic McCarren Pool while you listen to some great music for a real summer-in-the-city experience.
