Fashion Springs Ahead in SoHo

JANUARY 15, 2010

Designer Jill Sander and SoHo’s Uniqlo bring a hint of spring to style-starved shoppers.

Raising the rack on the designer-lines-at-high-street-shops trend, Japanese basics mecca Uniqlo has been having a tough time keeping Jill Sander’s +J line for men and women on the shelves. When the collaboration between Uniqlo and Sander debuted last October, the clean, minimal cuts and wearable shades for which the designer is known flew from racks after fashion-crazed shoppers lined up for hours outside the store’s sole U.S. outpost in SoHo.

The January 14 arrival of the +J spring line came amid frigid temperatures and short daylight hours, but the lines that heralded the collection still drew plenty of attention on Broadway. This is the first of three shipments in the +J spring collection, the second of which will arrive in mid-March.

What should shoppers expect (via Racked) once the frenzy calms down? Understated, tailored basics—refreshing after a decade of girly ruffles—all for between $44 - $165. The muted colors are allegedly seasonal “transition” colors, while brighter items will arrive with the later shipment in March.
