Food Gallery 32: A K-Town Food Court

FEBRUARY 25, 2011

Koreatown’s tri-level Food Gallery 32 is the latest link in the gourmet food hall chain, and though we may not have known it, it’s just what we’ve been missing.

Located on 32nd Street in the Midtown Korean restaurant zone known as K-town, in a former bank space, the recently-opened Food Gallery 32 (11 West 32nd Street, 212-967-1678) resembles a typical mall food court in an Asian city: Three floors of Korean, Taiwanese and Japanese food, one cash register area on the first level. After you’ve paid, you’re given a buzzer that lets you know your food is ready. Seating is on the second and third levels, and everything is new, clean and shiny. The third floor also features a giant stage (possibly for k-pop performances to come?).

A sampling of what you’ll find: Boon Sik Zip offers Korean street food; Pastel offers casual Japanese cuisine like katsu, curry rice and omelette rice; De-Ppang offers Japanese also, with staples like donburi, teppanyaki and onigiri; Bian Dang (“lunchbox” in Chinese) offers Taiwanese food (you may recognize them from the Cravings truck); Big Bowl offers ramen and other Korean noodle bowls; Hanok also serves Korean food; Jin Jja Roo offers Korean-Chinese food; Crepe Monster is a Tokyo-style crepe booth (perfect for dessert).
