Go BEast, young hipsters

NOVEMBER 14, 2008

A cool new lounge beckons from Chinatown's east side

BEast
The folks from Manhattan disco salvation spot Santos Party House have taken up their serious nightlife tools and crafted another late-night gathering place, this time at the eastern frontier of Chinatown.

BEast, opened in late October, is a smaller, more intimate encampment, to be sure. The—literally, down the back stairs beneath rave-inspiring gourmet veggie restaurant Broadway East—underground, under-the-radar spot is more lounge than club; carefully curated art hangs on the walls and carefully curated artists and other downtown denizens hang behind the decks and at the bar. Though the crowd at the multi-leveled space may be chic, the vibe is cozy, with a spacious seating area upstairs. BEast boasts a selection of organic infused liquors and an eclectic beer menu, with a rotating collection of specialty cocktails. The owners counting on word-of-mouth to beckon visitors, so this may be a great time to stop by and enjoy an oasis of Manhattan lounge life without the crushing crowds.
