Great NYC Neighborhoods--Turtle Bay/U.N.

MARCH 5, 2012

You’d want to come out of your shell if you lived in Turtle Bay.NYC condos in Turtle Bay, 100 United National Plaza.

The small East Midtown neighborhood of Turtle Bay/United Nations–between 41st and 53rd Streets, and eastward from Lexington Avenue to the East River–is prime Manhattan real estate in the classic sense.

What you get: A mix of picturesque townhouses and high rise apartment buildings (and the massive Tudor City apartment complex), the East River waterfront and river views, dozens of top restaurants and pubs nearby and proximity to the United Nations headquarters. The U.N.'s grounds are considered international territory, belonging to all U.N. member nations, and the area is one of the city’s most important business districts.

A stroll by the East River can easily become a daily habit here, as can the open-to-the-public U.N. Plaza and park, with its beautifully-tended rose garden. The neighborhood also boasts plenty of retail stores, and it’s a short walk from Bloomingdales at 59th Street. Grand Central Station provides access to east side subways and the shuttle to the west side, in addition to MetroNorth commuter trains.

Some great Turtle Bay condo buildings: The Mondrian at 250 East 54th Street and 100 United Nations Plaza on 48th Street  (shown).
