International Style

AUGUST 27, 2010

Stateside Urban Outfitters stores may not yet stock as many collections by innovative international designers as their (newer) British cousins, but the arrival of Madras by A.P.C. for fall signals a welcome change.

The street-style chain has scored a fashion coup of sorts with the addition of the younger-at-heart collaboration between French cult fashion favorite A.P.C. and British designer Jessica Ogden. The ubiquitous trendspotting chain began stocking the tiny fall 2010 collection on August 20. Must-have items include an ever-so-slightly retro ’80s tunic dress, a fetchingly librarian-ingenue-chic velvet miniskirt and a high-waisted button-front denim skirt.

A.P.C. Madras, originally launched as a beach capsule collection, has been adored for many seasons by the French design company’s loyal customers for its spot-on cool girl styles as much as for its slightly lower-than-main-line price tags. The partnership with Urban will bring the collection to shoppers who aren’t in major international cities. It’s part of a new Around the World collection, an assortment of supercreative international designers that represent the first wave of the American stores’ designer brand strategy.
