Long Weekend: If You Stay You've Gotta Play

SEPTEMBER 4, 2009

If you're staying in town for Labor Day weekend, take advantage of summer's last stand and the city's cultural bounty.

Monday only:
West Indian American Day Carnival and Parade

Of all the parades New York City throws, this one may be the most colorful. A riot of sights (sequins, fantastic floats, beautiful bodies), sounds (DJs, Soca, Calypso) and tastes (just about every Caribbean treat) makes this fest one of the best.
Monday, September 7, 8 a.m – 6 p.m.
Eastern Parkway and Utica Avenue to Flatbush Avenue exit.

All weekend long:
Great World Beer Festival at the Armory
A beer festival doesn't need much explanation, but this one includes over 50 brewers, music and more.
September 4,5,6
The Park Avenue Armory
643 Park Avenue
Tickets: $40-$60 per day

Held Over: Restaurant week!

All month:
This great evening-out steams ahead all month long. Theater group Woodshed Collective presents the world premiere of The Confidence Man (inspired by Herman Melville's novel of the same name). The story revolves around a riverboat con man, and it unfolds for the public aboard the decommissioned U.S. Coast Guard Vessel Lilac.
Through Saturday, September 26.
The Lilac, Pier 40, Hudson River
Tickets are free but must be reserved.
