MAD about Robert

JANUARY 8, 2010

Robert at MAD is a great new find in dining and design.

The Museum of Arts and Design is the most recent addition—it opened in September of 2008—to the city’s wealth of design venues, displaying notable works of contemporary and historic design, art and craft in a head-turning modern building at Two Columbus Circle.

If you’re feeling the modern—and you’re in the neighborhood—you’ll be pleased to discover the newly-opened Robert at MAD restaurant. Located atop the museum on the ninth floor, the eye-popping eatery will make you feel like you’re eating inside a modern art exhibit—which, essentially, you are. Robert is named for Robert Isabell, the late event planner who helped develop the space, which offers stunning views of Columbus Circle and beyond and chic silver and lucite decor that add up to a singularly romantic city dining experience. Beneath the sparkle of two light installations, diners can enjoy a menu of American standards created by chef Brady Duhame (formerly of Union Prime). Hours are 11:00 a.m. 'til midnight, and if you don’t feel like a meal but want to enjoy the view, the lounge is open until 2 a.m.
