Music Discount Club Pops Up in a Historic Rock Spot

JUNE 24, 2011

A pop-up shop in the former CBGB space lends rock ‘n’ roll cred to Sony’s Pop Market site and gives music lovers more chances to collect the classics.

Sony’s new Pop Market website and discount club was created with the serious music lover—and collector—in mind. Using the flash-sale concept that has worked so well for companies like Gilt Groupe, Pop Market offers members (membership is free) daily discounts on rare and unique collections, box sets, special-issue compilations, band merch and more from legendary artists like The Clash, Bob Dylan, Michael Jackson, Johnny Cash and Miles Davis. Deals are good, discounts are heavy and windows of opportunity are narrow.

Through the month of June, the Morrison Hotel Gallery Bowery space (formerly music club and ’70s punk scene mecca CBGB), will become a walk-in retail market offering collectors even more chances to get their hot little hands on items available on PopMarket.com and to attend evening events like documentary screenings and special guest speakers. The shop will also offer items from Pop Market’s Complete Albums Collection (a new series of music products available exclusively from Pop Market) and t-shirts from Archive 1887 featuring screen prints of rare rock photos and artwork. The Pop Market store is located at 313 Bowery and will run through June 30, 2011. A schedule of events can be found here.
