Pre-war co-ops selling well south of 34th street; Preservation Commission KOs Kushner’s Puck Building plans

A third quarter 2011 report by The Halstead Company showed the price per room of pre-war co-ops rising at a higher rate compared to post-war co-ops (over prices one year ago) in downtown Manhattan, where higher sales of two- and three-plus-bedrooms led the market. The price of downtown post-war co-ops rose as well, but at a lower rate.

The Landmarks Preservation Commission recently nixed plans presented by Kushner Companies for making rooftop additions to the Puck Building at 295 Lafayette Street. Kushner Companies, headed by Jared Kushner, publisher of The New York Observer (and spouse of Ivanka Trump), had proposed adding six luxury penthouse units atop the 19th century landmarked building. Among other concerns, the commission explained that the proposed addition, “did not meet the standards we should demand for respecting and preserving this singular New York City landmark.”
