Building begins on a downtown condo; New plans revealed for former Trump turf

Neighbors of 50 Franklin Street between Cortlandt Alley and Lafayette Street should plan on a familiar early morning city serenade. Construction there has begun on an 18-story condo expected to open in March. Apartments at the residence will range from studios to penthouses and boast all standard amenities plus a 500-square-foot ground-floor guest unit that residents can rent for visitors.

Extell Development has revealed plans for the block between West End Avenue, the Hudson River and 59th and 61st Street to the Riverside South Task Force Committee. The land parcel, bought by Extell from Donald Trump several years ago, is known as Riverside Center. Current plans call for a 53-story tower, a 50-story tower and a 35-story tower clustered around a central plaza, all of which will be designed by French architect Christian de Portzamparc. Extell also announced that earlier plans to include a Costco at the site have been scrapped, but that it will include residential space, a public school, a hotel, a cinema facility, parking and publicly accessible open space.
