An historic district may expand, a Village tower's height is checked, and it's stop-and-go for a couple of West Side sales and rentals.

The Landmarks Preservation Commission is considering expansion of the SoHo-Cast Iron Historic District. The District–designated in 1973–is currently home to the world's largest concentration of Victorian cast-iron-fronted facades on 26 blocks south of Houston Street. The Commission also indicated its intention to seek further reductions in the height of the proposed new residential building that is part of the St. Vincent's Hospital expansion project in Greenwich Village. The initial design plans for the aforementioned tower were lowered to 299 feet and eventually to the current planned height of 286 feet.

Sales of condominium apartments have been halted at the Sheffield57 on Eighth Avenue and 57th Street, apparently because its offering plan has expired. According to reports, with less than half the building's 587 apartments sold, lenders may be reluctant to finance a venture "with so many fundamental challenges." Marketing has begun for Sessanta at 229 West 60th Street. The Sessanta offers rental residents an indoor pool and views of the garden and tennis courts as well as a garage, a fitness room, an on-site valet, a business center and a media room. The building will also feature cold storage for food deliveries, and washer/dryer hookups in apartments.
