New Developments in the News

MARCH 22, 2010

Another green light for a downtown hotel; buyers get a refund from a condo’s financial mess; someone noticed that lots of buildings don’t display their street addresses.

The Landmarks Preservation Commission has approved designs for a 13-story hotel at 25 Great Jones Street that will extend to Bond Street between Lafayette Street and the Bowery. The area–home to 40 Bond Street with its “graffiti” fence and dark green glass columns as well as a number of new and controversial residential and commercial buildings–has in recent years become one of the city’s most high-profile blocks.

New York State Attorney General Cuomo has told developers of the financially troubled One Madison Park condo to offer refunds to any buyers that have not closed on their apartments. The condo tower has also made news because of its proximity to a Rem Koolhaas-designed cantilivered 24-story condo, plans for which were later scrapped for a more sedate 11-story structure.
