New York City Delivers

JANUARY 27, 2009

Ordering WAY out: The city's favorites, to go

New Yorkers take their favorite comfort foods for granted, partly because they're in almost every neighborhood—we don't have to go far for that special nosh. But what about those who leave the city and but still crave the goodies they've left behind? Fortunately, it's easy to pull together a care package for displaced, hungry New Yorkers anywhere (Most will even do Fedex overnight.).

With a 100-year history of providing Upper West Siders with matzo balls and deli goodies, Barney Greengrass and Zabar's needn't be forgotten when you've gone out of town. Russ & Daughters smoked fish is another New York institution that goes a lot further than the F train. What's green and bumpy and flies? Gus's Pickles!

You can't get more "instant New York" than H & H Bagels. Jacques Torres chocolates will satisfy your truffle cravings from anywhere. And coffee connoisseurs everywhere know that Porto Rico coffee is worth its weight in beans.
