Notable Neighbors with Borat, Anna Sui and Norman Mailer

APRIL 21, 2011

Baron Cohen serious about Manhattan rental search; Anna Sui buys number three in her Village co-op; Norman Mailer’s Brooklyn Heights man-cave on the market.

“Borat” funnyman Sacha Baron Cohen is on the hunt for a Manhattan rental for himself, his wife (actress Isla Fisher) and their two daughters. They’re reportedly interested in 24 Thompson Street, a five-story, 5,000-square-foot, Soho townhouse renting for $37,500 a month. The townhouse has 17-foot ceilings, a patio garden, an elevator, antique stained-glass windows and a roof terrace with its own kitchenette (via NYPost).

Fashion designer Anna Sui has purchased a third apartment in her building at 13 West 12th Street in the West Village. Sui already owns a 9th floor one-bedroom and a separate penthouse. Her newest collection of square feet, bought for $2.3 million, is also on the 9th floor (via CurbedNY).

The Brooklyn Heights apartment of late literary lion Norman Mailer has been put on the market by his son, Michael. The 25-foot-wide brownstone at 142 Columbia Heights–onetime home of Mailers pére and fils as well as several the former’s many wives–has two bedrooms in the main apartment, outdoor space on the roof, and another room one floor below that is not accessible from the main apartment (via NYTimes).
