Notable NYC Neighbors

JANUARY 2, 2013

Hitmakers and style-setters express themselves with homes in the city’s top buildings.

Grown-up boy wonder Ricky Martin just bought a new Upper East Side condo for himself and his twin toddlers for $5.9 million. While the four-bedroom apartment at 170 East End Avenue–listed at $6.495 million–might not seem like the place to be livin’ la vida loca, the 3,150 square-foot home has some crazy cool features like floor-to-ceiling windows, park views, custom cabinets, Swiss quartzite countertops, a playroom for the kids and building amenities like a fitness center, a screening room and a golf simulator (CurbedNY).

Singer/songwriter Paul Simon recently took a look at a three-bedroom duplex penthouse at 250 Bowery. Penthouse prices in the new downtown boutique condo building range from about $4 million to $7 million. The one Simon saw has a sky-lit staircase ascending to a roof terrace, a fireplace and a chef’s kitchen (NYPost).

Girly vixen-wear designer Betsey Johnson just found a new home at Cassa Hotel and Residences at 70 West 45th Street. The zany fashion icon–she’s also working on a reality show with daughter Lulu–is renting a two-bedroom apartment in the Enrique Norten-designed residence for somewhere in the neighborhood of $14,000 a month (NYPost).

Underwear overlord Calvin Klein has addressed his current state of homelessness–his penthouse at the Richard Meier-designed 176 Perry Street remains off-limits due to the mess left by Hurricane Sandy–by renting deluxe digs at the Herzog & de Meuron-designed Ian Schrager development at 40 Bond Street. The 2,000-square-foot two-bedroom apartment has a $25,000 a month rental price tag to go with its floor-to-ceiling windows, wood-burning fireplace and 24-hour concierge (DailyMail).
