If you're a garden lover, you might want to make sure there's a community garden near your next apartment. A few of the city’s prettiest community gardens are:
6th & B Garden
This East Village/Alphabet City garden is open to the public on weekend afternoons and for special events like children’s workshops, lectures, music and films. The garden has fruit trees, ponds and a stage, and if you live nearby, you can apply for a garden plot.

Jefferson Market Garden
Located on West 9th Street between 6th and Greenwich Avenues, this public garden is open on weekday afternoons (except Mondays) from May to October. With a breathtaking collection of flowers and plants, the garden is a popular spot for weddings as well as flower festivals and other public events.

West Side Community Garden
This award-winning garden was founded in 1976 on a vacant lot on Columbus Avenue at 89th Street. Inside the garden you’ll find a floral amphitheater and public seating area, a public flower park, vegetable beds, a community herb bed and six children’s or school plots. Many of the garden’s carefully-tended plants are raised in a greenhouse on the grounds of St. John the Divine. The garden also hosts community events like an annual tulip festival.
