Packing Light: Luggage Services Take Your Closet on the Road

Because nobody loves excess baggage—and jet-setting can wreak havoc on your wardrobe—a few smart services have stepped in to lighten the load.

Frequent travelers who are tired of packing their clothes, waiting on long lines to check in and receive baggage have seen the (travel) light. A handful of smart services will take care of the heavy lifting—they’ll come get your stuff, keep it safe and sound, and ship it directly to your door. Restrictions on carry-on items have made these services even more of a plus.

Garde Robe saves the day with a “wardrobe butler” service geared towards frequent business fliers, owners of multiple homes, fashion designers and “New York residents with inadequate closet space.” Fashion-forward jet-setters can log on, choose the items they’d like shipped–and arrive with just a smile.

CarryOn is another virtual closet service that keeps your wardrobe at your fingertips while taking it off your hands. Just browse your cyber-closet (complete with photos), select what you’ll want on your trip, choose your arrival and departure dates, and your wardrobe will meet you at your hotel or home. The services aren’t cheap (services at Garde Robe start at $350) but you get the peace of mind that comes with knowing your fancy frocks will be ready when you are.
