Sprout: A Fresh New Source for Green Baby Gear

SEPTEMBER 23, 2011

The stork is bringing New York City a new place to shop for adorable baby gear and find resources for keeping kid stuff green, clean and healthy.

San Francisco transplant Sprout is putting down new roots in New York City. The soon-to-be open store at 1375 Third Avenue on the Upper East Side will offer environmentally conscious, chemical-free baby items like sustainably-built nursery furniture, clothing, toys, bath and body care products and bedding. In addition, Sprout’s mission is to make the world better for the next generation: Every product on the shelves has been meticulously evaluated to ensure that it’s free from anything that might be harmful to your baby.

The store’s founder, Suzanne Price, a former Senior Equity Research Analyst in the Green Living Consumer Sector at San Francisco-based investment bank ThinkEquity, spent years studying organic consumer products and learning about the impact of toxic chemicals. When she had a baby of her own, she knew there was a real need for the straight story on safety and a source for natural, toxin-free and green baby products, so she went to work creating one. In addition to being a resource for finding out safety and recall information, Sprout also reaches out to the community. The New York City store—like its San Francisco sibling—will offer a warm, colorful play space where moms and tots can gather for yoga, story hour, baby showers, parenting classes and other events.

The Sprout New York City store will be hosting a grand opening celebration on September 24. Borrow a kid or bring your own to enjoy a day of children’s entertainment including a kids’ playroom, toddler yoga, face painting, all-natural snacks and more. The first 75 people unable to resist the store’s adorable merch will get a goodie bag with organic personal care items, bamboo onesies and other treats, and there will be drawings held for additional prizes.
