Tattoo You: Star Clients Give Body Art Pros a Boost

OCTOBER 12, 2010

Chandeliers and soft lighting make getting inked a more attractive choice for the silver-spoon set.

Actors and musicians have sported tattoos for ages, but when headline-snatching socialite Tinsley Mortimer got inked at an East Village tattoo parlor, the once-rebellious rite may have finally gotten the (tramp) stamp of approval for the blue-blood gang. Her venue of choice was the already celebrity-studded downtown shop East Side Ink (Woody Harrelson and Garth Brooks have been clients). The shop’s interior resembles a cozy wine bar more than the purveyor of once-upon-a-time scandalous handiwork.

Another of the city’s ink spots where you’re as likely to find NYU coeds as multi-pierced human canvasses is New York Adorned. An ornate chandelier adorns the ceiling, and the shop’s window showcases delicate, offbeat silver and gold jewelry by local and well-known designers.

Internationally-renowned ink man Anil Gupta (via New York Magazine), who works out of his shop, Inkline Studios, includes John McEnroe and Rosie O’Donnell among his celebrity clients. He’s known for his perfect replicas of anything from Dalí to Da Vinci, but be prepared to wait for up to a year. Saved Tattoo in Williamsburg—where tattoo superstar/owner Scott Campbell pulls in clients like Marc Jacobs, Josh Hartnett and Helena Christensen—is another good bet for regret-free body art.
