This Week in NYC Living

NOVEMBER 19, 2012

If your Thanksgiving week involves hitting the shops, NYC holiday markets and pop-ups have you covered for one-of-a-kind gifts, just-right items and handmade goodies galore.

Union Square, Columbus Circle: The Union Square Holiday Market (11/16-12/24) and Columbus Circle Holiday Market (opens 11/28) are the biggies. They’ve been keeping the elves overworked for more than 16 years. You’ll find everything from edibles to wearables to trimmings for the tree.

In Midtown, the Grand Central Holiday Fair (11/14-12/24) includes a cache of cool modern gifts from the MoMA Store, and the Holiday Shops at Bryant Park (open since October 26 and featuring a packed calendar of holiday events, a skating rink and more) guarantee that you’re never far from a shopping opportunity.

Head to Chelsea if you’re looknig for the creative and unique in the form of handmade arty goodies at Artists and Fleas (9/19-12/31) and Jingle (12/13-12/23) at Chelsea Market.

In SoHo, the two-day Bust Holiday Craftacular and Food Fair (2/01 and 12/20) offers the perfect chance to scoop up cool jewels and funky fashions.

In Fort Greene, the beloved Brooklyn Flea is hosting its Gifted Holiday Market (11/24-12/23) with over 100 vendors at Skylight One Hanson in the gorgeous former Williamsburg Savings Bank, selling handmade, vintage and edible gifts for everyone on your list.

The Brooklyn Night Bazaar (11/23-12/22) is just the kind of shopping, gathering, eating, drinking holiday event you’d expect to find in Williamsburg. This late-night warehouse event-space-slash-popup-shop is no scruffy affair. Expect cool goods from top local vendors, some of the city’s best edibles and some very merry musical performances and special events.
