Trivial Pursuits: Pub Trivia and Party Games

MAY 1, 2009

Match your wisdom and wit with the smarty-pants brigade at one of the city's regular brainy, boozy showdowns.

Drunken Smartass Olympics is a 51-question factoid-fest held every Wednesday night at Dempsey's Pub (61 2nd Avenue). The fine minds behind the long-running downtown standby for trivia buffs have also launched a new diversion, Green Mondays Trivia at Shades of Green at 125 East 15th Street.

The Big Quiz Thing is still going strong, though the notorious B.Q.T. has moved from its original spot at the Slipper Room to Crash Mansion at 199 Bowery. The "ultimate test of useless information" happens 2-3 nights per month (The next is Monday May 11 at 7:30 pm.), when geeks and cool kids alike compete for a $200 prize.

Every other Monday, Pete's Candy Store, the grown-up and laid-back bar in Williamsburg (709 Lorimier Street) hosts a chance for anyone with a spelling bee in their bonnet to step up to the mic and make up for that time in 7th grade when they stumbled over the spelling of L-O-Q-U-A-C-I-O-U-S (Pete's does a six-round quiz/trivia night on Wednesdays at 7:30 as well.).
