Unique Boutique: The James Hotel

DECEMBER 3, 2010

A new boutique hotel brings a Chicago favorite to SoHo.

The James Hotel at 27 Grand Street in SoHo is the newest of a healthy crop of boutique guest spots sprouting in all corners of the city. The recent outpost of the much-loved Windy City establishment (Denihan Hospitality Group owns the chain) of the same name just opened its 114 guest rooms and suites (including a 15th floor penthouse loft that boasts East River Bridge views) at the beginning of September and is attempting to distinguish itself amid a crowded field. One such attempt is the displayed work by well-known and up-and-coming artists in homage to the neighborhood’s creative history.

The child- and pet-friendly hotel is offering perks like nightshirts and pet treats, and rooms, though diminutive, become a stylish home-away-from-home when outfitted with iPod docking stations and iPads, The hotel has teamed up with Public Bikes to provide free bicycles for guest use, and if you’d rather roll on four wheels, the hotel’s Lexus RX 400 is available as well. A new restaurant/lounge, Jimmy, is on the way, as is a rooftop pool (via Curbed) that affords killer views over Sixth Avenue.
