Film Highlights
It’s a good week for cinephiles: Catch a preview screening of of-the-moment director Miranda July’s new film The Future at MoMA (July 13), and attend a Q and A with Ms. July herself at IFC, where she’s curating an evening of Jane Campion shorts (July 14). Also a rare pair of avant-garde films, including Footlight Parade, a classic from trippy choreographer Busby Berkeley and Nocturne, a pre-dogme thriller from distinctive Danish filmmaker Lars Von Trier’s film school days, at the Museum of Arts and Design (July 14). If highbrow’s not your bag of popcorn, kick back with Wayne’s World at McCarren Park Summerscreen (July 13).

Live Music Round-Up
Joan Jett puts another dime in the jukebox, baby, for a free concert at Coney Island—part of the Seaside Summer Series (July 14; via Brooklyn Vegan). Tom Ze brings Bossa Nova brilliance to Lincoln Center (July 19). Electronic wonderboy James Blake flips the switches at Webster Hall (July 13). Patti Smith performs at Castle Clinton (July 14). The experimental, talented tUnE-yArDs headline at the always-terrific, free RiverRocks series in Hudson River Park (July 14). And J-pop darlings Cibo Matto are at Bowery Ballroom (July 18). If pop isn’t your thing, the Metropolitan Opera Recital Series belts ‘em out at Brooklyn Bridge Park on July 13.
