CMJ Music Marathon
This annual indie music showcase gives new and notable bands a chance to play a sampling of their repertoire for a veritable who's who of industry small- and medium-wigs (are there actually "bigwigs" anymore?) and anyone else. There are also films, panel discussions and enough parties to keep you afloat in a sea of PBR for the duration.

New York City Dumpling Festival
Tasty, compact, convenient and cheap, the humble dumpling rises to great heights in the hands of the city's finest practitioners of dumpling architecture and are available for sampling at this festival.

Greenpoint Oktoberfest
Promotion company MeanRed is throwing an autumn bash on the Greenpoint waterfront, with pumpkin decorating and face-painting for kids and plenty of locally-brewed beer and brats (and other "hearty wursts") for the grown-ups.
