What's Going on this Week

MARCH 30, 2011

Every week the city offers yet another chance to sample the finer things in life–from music and movies to sweets and style.

New Directors/New Films
This annual film series showcases the best new talent from around the world, giving you a chance to see films that often go on to achieve critical acclaim in theaters, sometimes years down the road. The festival is presented by the Film Society of Lincoln Center and the Museum of Modern Art. Screenings are held at both locations.
March 23-April 3; Full schedule, ticket info and venues.

LCD Soundsystem Final Performance
You probably did not succeed in procuring a ticket to LCD Soundsystem’s last pre-retirement show at Madison Square Garden. Scalpers worked their mojo and MSG sold out quickly and the band, recognizing real fans wanted to see them, added several additional shows at Terminal Five this week (more from Rolling Stone).
LCD Soundsystem at Madison Square Garden, April 2, 6:30 p.m.;
LCD Soundsystem at Terminal 5, March 29-31, 6 p.m.; 610 West 56th Street

Tasting Brooklyn
Brooklyn has emerged in recent years as the tastiest borough of all. This festival of indulgence features over twenty-five of the borough’s food and drink vendors (including The Red Hook Lobster Pound, The Purple Yam and many more) under one roof.
Tuesday, April 5, 6:30-9 p.m.; Dumbo Loft, 155 Water Street; Ticket & event info.

Chocolate Fest 2011: A Walk-Around Tasting
92Y is the organization behind this 6th annual meet-and-munch with some of the city’s most tempting temples of chocolate. You’ll sample goodies like Ring Dings made from real ingredients, chocolate chip cookies paired with small-batch beer, chocolate-inspired cocktails, single origin chocolate gelato, organic tree to bar chocolate from a cocoa collective in Grenada and, if you’ve still got room, much more.
Sunday, April 3, 7:30 p.m.; Buttenweiser Hall at the 92nd Street Y, 92nd Street and Lexington Avenue; Tickets: $39; Full info.
