Overview of Ruppert Towers 2 at 1619 Third Avenue

Ruppert Towers 2 is a 34 story red brick tower at 1619 Third Avenue between 90th and 91st Streets, completed in 1975 and converted to a condominium in 2003. The building contains 549 units and was designed by Davis, Brody & Associates as part of the massive Ruppert Brewery redevelopment that transformed Yorkville from a low rise neighborhood into a high rise enclave. The brewery, founded in 1867 and once owned by Jacob Ruppert Jr. (who also owned the New York Yankees), closed in 1965, and the 22 acre site became an urban renewal project. The fortress like tower features chamfered corners, vertical window strips, and dark metal spandrels, creating what critics described as a complexly massed structure that is both monumental and sophisticated in handling its immense density.

Apartments range from one to three bedrooms, with many units easily convertible to add an additional bedroom. Common features include Brazilian cherry or Santos mahogany hardwood floors, renovated kitchens with granite counters and stainless steel appliances, renovated marble bathrooms, and abundant closet space with built in storage systems and walk in closets. High floor units offer sweeping views of the East River and city skyline to the south and east. Layouts typically feature separate dining areas, with living rooms ranging from 16 to 22 feet in length and floor to ceiling windows that maximize natural light.

The full service condominium offers a 24 hour doorman, concierge, live in superintendent, landscaped roof terrace with BBQ, two private playgrounds, bicycle room, package room, laundry facilities, valet service, and on site parking garage. Residents receive discounted membership to the in house New York Sports Club. A significant financial advantage is that all utilities are included in common charges, covering air conditioning, water, electricity, and heat. Cats are permitted but dogs are not allowed. The building's location provides convenient access to the Q and 4 5 6 subway lines, Whole Foods, and nearby parks including Central Park and the East River Esplanade.
