360 East 72nd Street: CARTER'S REVIEW

One of the earliest of the postwar supertowers on the Upper East Side, this 35-story apartment building was erected in 1963 and converted to a cooperative in 1971.

In 2007, it reclad its white-brick facades with red brick.

The occupies the full blockfront along First Avenue and in the late 1990's its entrance was redesigned. Its new, imposing and impressive large glass and bronze marquee and handsomely appointed lobby reflect the area's dramatically improved residential character since the building was completed.

Sotheby's, the famous auction house, is located one block to the east, and has become the center of a high-rise residential enclave at the north end of York Avenue's renowned hospital corridor.

Seventy-Second Street has long been one of the East Side's most attractive and important crossstreets and offers convenient bus service. First and Second Avenues abound in popular and attractive restaurants near this 455-unit building, which has a large Food Emporium supermarket on First Avenue at 71st Street.

The views from this building's setback tower are impressive.
