A new building under construction on the border of Prospect Heights and Crown Heights is taking shape at 495 St. Johns Place, between Washington Avenue and Classon Avenue. Not long ago, the site was occupied by a small two-story home and driveway - both gone and replaced with the frame of the future seven-story residential building. It will hold 26 residences, many with private terraces, and also come equipped with amenities including a game room and fitness center.
A rendering from Manhattan-based design firm Input Creative Studio has changed quite a bit since we last checked-in earlier this year. The previous rendering was heavily inspired by Art Deco design and had strong vertical lines finished in a golden sheen. The latest rendering shows a scaled-back version that lacks those strong vertical lines, which have been replaced with larger-width windows. The neutral colored brick has been swapped for a façade with two contrasting segments.

Creative Design Studio has released interior renderings that show a contemporary open kitchen with stainless steel appliances and a fully-tiled bathroom with dark-colored fixtures. There will be stylish common areas and a colorful game room will have a variety of seating. The new building is directly next door to FDNY Engine 280 and shares the block with mostly prewar residential buildings and brownstones. It’s two blocks to the Brooklyn Museum and Prospect Park and there are several transit options nearby.

On the same block as the new building at 467 St. Johns Place, a four-bedroom, four-bathroom townhouse is listed for rent by Compass for $8,950/month; the home is spread over three floors and also has a finished cellar. The newly constructed rental building The Frederick opened in 2017 and is only one block away from this site. It currently has several no-fee listings including studios priced from $2,333/month and one-bedrooms from $2,500/month.
